Our Government: The Candyman

Who can take your money, with a twinkle in their eye? Take it all away and give it to some other guy? The government can.

Reid's Wish for the Death of an Industry

newspaper-boy During an event in Las Vegas, where Harry Reid was feted by the Chamber of Commerce this past Wednesday, it seems there was more than one dark cloud marring the Senator's day. Although the monthly luncheon meeting was attended by nearly 500 people, and Reid was at his most urbane, which perhaps isn't saying much with his dryer than dirt mien, he enjoyed more than a  spatteri

Become an Obama Snitch-Receive Your Brown Shirt

angry-obama1From the White House itself: "There is a lot of disinformation about health insurance reform out there, spanning from control of personal finances to end of life care.  These rumors often travel just below the surface via chain emails or through casual conversation.  Since we can’t keep track of all of them here at the White House, we’re asking for your help.

To Madam Speaker, From One Woman to Another

nancy-pelosiTo Madam Speaker Nancy Pelosi: Since becoming the true power behind the Presidency, Nancy, there are several issues I feel the need to discuss with you, from one woman to another. Let's face it, women have been much maligned in this country.

America Shrugged

"Mr. Rearden," said Francisco, his voice solemnly calm, "if you saw Atlas, the giant who holds the world on his shoulders, if you saw that he stood, blood running down his chest, his knees buckling, his arms trembling but still trying to hold the world aloft with the last of his strength, and the greater his effort the heavier he world bore down on his shoulders - what would you tell him to do?" Another Tax Cheat on the Obama Team

Obama's newest tax cheat choice for his growing administration's position of U.S. Trade representative is former Dallas mayor, Ron Kirk, who apparently lied about both his income and his business expenses. It wasn't a one time mistake, either. He consistently lied on his taxes for three consecutive years (so far), failing to claim income of $37,750. In addition, he wrote off $17,382 for NBA Maverick's tickets. But he promises to pay it back now. How many tax cheats does this make? Four. Does it concern the democrats?

A Sweet Deal, or An Illegal Contribution?

So it seems Obama received a sweetheart mortgage loan in 2005 from Northern Trust, a company that has supported Obama's political ambitions since 1990. The 1.32 million dollar loan at a rate of 5.625%, which was below the market rates at that time, should have been considered a political contribution by the FEC (Federal Election Commission). In addition to that rate, which was unavailable to the average borrower, he also paid no loan origination fees or discount points. This particular loan would have saved Obama approximately $110,000 over the life of the loan.
