Obama's Orwellian Gambit

Oh, you know what I'm talking about.  Obama has been in office roughly 250 days.  He's never stopped campaigning.  He's in our face almost every other day in one form or another.  For the last two and a half years we seen a concerted effort to create and nourish a cult of personality around a community organizer and alleged Constitutional scholar. A man who counts as his mentors men like Frank Marshall Davis, an avowed and infamous Communist.  A man whose father was a communist politician in Kenya. A man whose political career was launched in the living room of an admitted domestic terrorist, and communist, Bill Ayers. All I can say is that Chairman Mao would be proud.  Somehow this man's past was whitewashed by a complicit media who, instead of asking questions about this virtual unknown's past, fell right in line and parroted the narrative without a second of pause.  Somehow, the current President of the United States is the most ideologically pure Statist we've ever seen in this country. Fast forward to today.  This President has pushed through a Keynesian stimulus package that is a 700 Billion dollar band-aid on a problem (or set of problems) caused by government intervention into the private sector for the last 75 years.  He tried to ram a Health Care reform bill into law before the summer recess, before the people could air their concerns, which was a naked attempt to usher in a Universal Health Care system akin to the socialist programs in Europe or in Canada. He has "temporarily" nationalized two of our largest automobile companies. There's a Cap and Trade program being debated in Congress that will be one of the largest tax hikes on every sector of our economy in history. This Statist President is taking this country down a path of government control that is so complete it threatens the very fabric of the principles this country was founded on.  When the President promised change, most people had no idea how far he was going to go and some of it, thankfully, is finally causing the people to stand up and take notice. With that as a backdrop, the final assault has been launched.  This week it was announced that the President was going to give a speech about education and service to all the students of our public education systems across the country.  As far as speeches go, it seems harmless enough.  It's a good message to send to our youth.  But the sinister motive behind this was made all too clear when the Department of Education sent out some prep material and "suggestions" for activities to engage the students further.  Things like asking the students to ask themselves "What is the President asking me to do?" or "Are we able to do what President Obama is asking of us?" or "How will he inspire us?" The underlying message is disturbing specially given the current political climate.  The questions are focused on Obama, not the country. Asking these questions of children is designed to subliminally instill a concept that the government, and specifically the President, is this overarching power and we should ask ourselves what it, or the President, expects of us.  This isn't a JFK type request.  This isn't about what we can do for our country.  This is about what we can do for our government. This is a subliminal STATIST message being sent to our youth. This entire gambit is troublesome in and of itself.  Then we find out that the President is also going to be addressing a joint session of Congress the day after all of this occurs.  The day after they prep our youth to be open to the next thing "our President is asking of us" which is to push through his vision for health care reform. I'm not a conspiracy theorist.  I do have a healthy skepticism when it comes to government.  I consider myself a student of American history and particularly of the events that led to our founding and to the drafting of our Constitution.  Our Founding Fathers taught us to question government.  It is one of the bedrocks of American society.  Limited government.  The power of the government is given to it by the people and only for the things outlined in that contract we established 222 years ago. This Orwellian Gambit, in my view, is akin to the Statist in Chief taking a sledghammer to the foundation of this great country.  It isn't the first such blow.  It won't be the last.  But with the cult of personality surrounding this man, it is the most powerful attack I have personally witnessed in my 20+ years of watching the goings on in Washington, DC. If one were to allow one's mind to wander: Consider what could be the motivation behind this assault. Take into account the history of the man making these moves and one could really make the case that the community organizer is taking a page out of the Alinsky playbook. One could make the argument that he is trying to incite a reaction from his opposition that will allow him and his statist allies to consolidate power and dismiss the opposition's concerns and ram through their agenda. This is going to get ugly. UPDATE:  Late last night, the Obama Administration changed some of the language in the "suggested activities" hand out for the speech.  Details here.  The language, not surprisingly, was inserted by the White House and the uproar led them to revise it.  I guess even they realized that they were being less than subtle about what they were trying to accomplish.
