1994 to 34.7 per 1000 teens in 2004. The young unmarried teen birth rate dropped to its lowest level since 1940, 0.7 and the young unmarried black teen birth rate dropped to the lowest level in recorded history, 1.8 per 1000 10-14 year old black teens.
Today contraception funding through Title X is at $283.1 million for FY 2007, while
abstinence education stands at $176.4 million. Funding from all sources for
comprehensive sex education is 10X more than funding for abstinence education.”
So there you have it, a demonstrably sharp decline in the number of teen pregnancies as a result of abstinence education (and half the cost of contraceptive based education). It comes as no surprise that our tax-payer money is going to be spent to fund a new provision, all 50 states will now offer Medicaid “family planning” services (including contraception) . Although the money doesn't directly fund abortions, it goes to Planned Parenthood, the nation's largest purveyor of abortions, which would otherwise have to fund its own contraceptive supply.
Everyday I hear something new that this administration plans on doing that literally breaks my heart. Obama and his congressional mandate have taken hold of this country and are systematically breaking it down and reconstructing a country that will no longer resemble the one I love and respect. I am not advocating government funded abstinence education, nor am I advocating the allocation of tax-payer dollars to fund abortions and hand out contraceptives; I am advocating for Big Brother to stay out of the lives of Americans and their children, and to stop deriding programs that work because of ideological driven agendas. My only hope is that parents stand up and make the decision to be the ones to provide their kids with a good value system. Parents shouldn't keep kids in the dark about sex, but let them know that in waiting you not only provide yourself with the best arsenal against unwanted pregnancy and disease, but in doing so you value yourself enough to wait to have sex.
