No Thank You Washington, We'll Pass

It appears some individual states are getting a bit tired of the Federal government overstepping their bounds in regards to states' rights, and they're fighting back (21 in all so far). Sure, for most states it may only be a moral stance, but there are some states that are capable of standing on their own, without interference or aid from the federal government. Let's just examine Nevada (I know, shameless state promotion). Nevada is a beautiful state, with enormous resources. But the most lucrative resource for sale here is sin. Whatever your vice is, we offer it, but not always legally. For instance, prostitution is legal in certain counties in Nevada, but not Clark or Washoe Counties, which incorporate Las Vegas and Reno respectively. Let's take a quick look at just a few of the ways Nevada could easily free itself of the long arm of Washington, then perhaps other states can follow suit. Again, prostitution. Legalize it everywhere in Nevada. Alright, I will admit this may not be a popular conservative stance, but the fact is that prostitution is a career as old as Eve and isn't going to change anytime in the near future. Let's make is a safer proposition, no pun intended. Women who choose this path will be protected, make a great deal of money, and their clients won't be able to take advantage of them or abuse them. The clients who choose to avail themselves of this particular...service, will be more protected themselves, both physically and monetarily. Then while we're at it, add male prostitutes and everything in between. Now tax it, collect it, and let's move on. Marijuana. This is one drug that should not be illegal. Here we have ridiculous prohibition on marijuana, but we allow alcohol, which will eat your liver up faster than a hungry harpy, to be passed around like a right of passage. Drunk driving, beer muscles which lead to violence, and the basic aggravation of dealing with a drunk when you're sober is enough to encourage marijuana usage instead. It can be sold in every convenience store, casino gift shop, or hey, anywhere else alcohol and cigarettes are sold (which is everywhere in Las Vegas). Tax it, collect it, and let's move on. Gambling. Well the fact is that the corporations who own the casinos in Nevada are no longer smaller individuals who actually cared about the town, because it was their livelihood. Now, it's big business, and their tax commitment in this state is grudgingly met, kicking and screaming all the way. At one time the casinos were the biggest voluntary contributor to education in this state. That being said, they're also the largest employers, and we don't want to bite the hand that feeds us, nor do we want to pass the cost on to our tourists. An extra small tax on rooms, say 3% would go a long way, and it would go directly to the state. That's a 3% tax on more than 130,000 rooms, ranging in price from 20 dollars a night to 10,000. Will the tourist notice such a small amount? Probably not. But the state will. So perhaps if we offer more variety of our greatest resource, we could easily stand on our own, and how many other states could do the same? Don't sell sin? Fine, sell things, anything, made well in America, instead of cheap Chinese knockoffs that break in a matter of days. I would pay three times as much for something well made that will last, and made here in America, than buying something that doesn't save me money in the long run. Let's bring industry and manufacturing back to America. Create jobs and exports. The next step will have to be deporting illegal immigrants. I know, let's get all this out of the way...But, but they do jobs Americans won't do. BS. When people are hurting, any job is welcome. If you want your state to be able to stand on its own, you can't have people paid under the table, and using another person's social security number. Everyone needs to be gainfully employed, and more importantly legally employed and paying taxes. So there you go. Time for us to take back the rights our Founding Fathers handed to us. It's time to put these civil servants in Washington in their place. We the People are their bosses. They aren't doing what we expect, so it's time to knock them off their pedestals, and drag them down where they belong. Take away their power, and they're no more than the pathetic little  control freaks they were always meant to be in life. Good riddance. When the federal government dangles the carrot that is federal funding, while demanding states give up their rights, find a way to become independent, and tell them, no thank you Washington, we'll pass.
