I have to admit, it’s a little surreal to have a story dedicated to your exile from a news site, and to have said story accompanied by 400 comments either supporting you or haranguing you. Not really knowing how to retort this ban on the character that became known as ‘Sparta’, I’ve decided to account my Digg odyssey, and why I think conservatives need to buckle up and prepare for a bumpy ride.
I first found out about digg about a year ago from a friend, he said ‘Sparta’ you have to check out this site, you’ll love it. He knew that I was probably one of the most opinionated people on the planet, someone who will argue till the bitter end, and would fit right in to the juggernaut that is Digg.com. So off I went, and in May of 2008, I signed up for digg My first couple of months as a digger, I caught on very quickly that there was definitely an agenda on the site (stories such as- ‘Sarah Palin has Love Child with Fabio’, ‘John McCain Eats Small Children Seasoned with Tabasco’, ‘Obama Gives Starving Somali Child Fluffy Puppy and Cures Cancer in One Day’- Using hyperbole, Yes--- Was there a blaring bias? Absolutely.) As seeing I’ve always had a flare for the snark, I began commenting on the typical mindless drivel that makes it to the front page on a daily basis. The diggers seemed to like me, with the exception of the few times I decided to make the fatal mistake of stating a belief in God (that’s when I got a taste of what it’s like to be an ‘Internets’ pariah). I noticed quickly that digg operated with a thug-like mentality, either you joined the fold or you were out (the fold here being the Atheist Burger King Kids Club).
It wasn’t until about mid-October that I finally decided to take the emboldened step and comment on one of the ubiquitous Palin bashing stories. My comment was fairly innocuous; I merely expressed the fact that fiscally McCain/Palin had my vote. Well that’s when I had my first taste of the ferocity of the liberal diggers. They were condescending, accusatory, and well just plain nasty. One Palin thread most notably, I was asked if I was in need of ‘a good hot d**king’ in response to stating how sexist the commentating was. Yes there were some choice people that got away with some pretty obscene discourse.
However in testing the digg waters, three male conservative diggers found my ‘heretical’ comments in the liberal lion’s den. At first I was in disbelief that people were not only in accordance with what I was saying, but they were on digg?!?!?!?! I imagine it’s the feeling that most have when they actually find the underground conservative coalition in digg, you feel like there is a bit more order in the universe. So I started racking up the conservative friends, and lo and behold there were a lot of people who liked what I had to say. They liked my call for personal responsibility, the need to stave off Big Brother and European socialism, and the irrepressible need for a return to family values and basic morality entrusted by the Founding Fathers. Yes digg and the conservative network sucked me in, and by election time I was spending half my time fighting for truth in a political environment mired with lies. Obviously in the end it wasn’t enough, but I feel vindicated knowing that I fought for this country in a time when people were grasping on to rhetoric and promises of entitlements from an unscrupulous man.
So when did I realize that Orwell’s quote from 1984, “Freedom is the freedom to say that 2 + 2 = 4. All else shall follow.” suited the digg arena? When conservatives I had fought along side by side were being banned, one for touting lines such as “liberals are maggot excreta”. I began to hear about the TOS, and how the digg moderators could arbitrarily ‘ban’ you for content they deemed inappropriate. I immediately thought, if half the threads in one day contain some of the most offensive and slanderous hate speech aimed at Sarah Palin, then why the hell is SAR09 getting banned for saying maggot excreta? It was obvious that if you fell on the wrong side of the political spectrum and were outspoken in your communiqué, then you were a marked digger.
I will mention one particular digger, because I give him credit for being the most antagonist and skillful at getting a rise out of those who dare to oppose him. For this story I will call him Dick (short for Richard of course) for all intents and purposes. Well Dick had a penchant for chewing up and spitting out anyone who professed faith in a higher being, not only that but Dick had a lot of other ‘Dicks’ that followed him. It’s rather pathetic when I think about how seriously I took the verbal sparing with this man, but when he went on an ad hominem attack, went through my old posts and attacked me in an offensive manner, well let’s just say it was war (btw even insinuating someone had an STD did not get this untouchable digger banned) Well finally I had just had it with Dick, and I went berserk, went on a ‘hate/expletive-filled’ diatribe, and alas got banned. Fair enough, digg is run by San Fran Libs, why would they keep someone like me around? Needless to say I was mad as hell when I got banned, I did feel it was unfair, because others had said more than I did and got away with it. But alas, life ain’t fair and I never thought to question the exile, so I did what any banned digger would do, I set up a new account. I had just seen 300 (probably for the 300th time) the night before, a line struck me from the movie- “The world will know that free men stood against a tyrant, that few stood against many, and before this battle was over, even a god-king can bleed.” Perfect, conservatives were the 300, outnumbered, and fighting in a climate that couldn’t be any more inhospitable. So WE ARE SPARTA was born. In the two months as Sparta I was able to do quite a bit of feather rustling, spoke out against- pedophilia (and the justification through moral relativism), the need for abstinence education in an ever growing permissive society, the atrocity of murdering the unborn (aka abortion), the need for accountability and self-reliance in an entitlement driven society, and of course I spoke out fervently against the man they now call our president. Sometimes I kept the high-ground, sometimes I didn’t. At times I was brash, other times I was sincere. But most importantly I was me, fighting for what I believe in. To all my digg friends: I realize the thread contains a comment I made regarding Palestinians (It was not the reason I was banned, I slipped up with an inquiry using my old email address, thus implicating myself in the double account violation). It really doesn’t matter, my day was coming, as I suspect everyone’s day is coming for those who not only voice their opinion, but do it with complete disregard for political correctness…. I quote Rush Limbaugh (a man who finds himself in the belly of the liberal speech squelching beast) “For all intents and purposes, "political correctness" is a far too polite a label to describe the brand of political oppression being imposed on certain kinds of thought.Let's call it what it is: thought control and "political cleansing." No I stand by what I said, and I appreciate the clarification that my friends made. It’s not like I have a death wish for innocent people, I have a death wish for an archaic Holy War and religion, that threatens not only the small nation of Israel, but Western civilization. I know the difference between Hamas and Palestinians, and I am saying the problem lies with the entire Palestinian aggregate, they have an underlying ideology that touts unless you comply, you must die. Again the progress of man, the cultivation of civilization, the preservation of humanity, were not achieved through appeasement and Neville Chamberlain style diplomacy- it was through blood, war, and glory. My prayer is for Israel to preserve their land, and their right to exist by any means necessary.
The problem with the world right now, and the discrepancy I see between this generation and those of the past is that rather than seeing things clearly, calling something for what it is, we have reduced everything to shades of gray. There is no right or wrong, there is nothing worth fighting for, just the irrepressible need for justification of every action and reaction whether it be right or wrong. This country was not founded that way, and it certainly was not maintained that way. The American Revolution, WWII, no one was standing around wondering, gosh maybe the world won’t like us if we do or say the wrong thing. No the men during this time took on life with conviction and a clear resolve- fight for freedom and the preservation of American ideals at all cost- The pursuit of life, liberty, and happiness.
So I leave with a call to arms- Digg is a rather platitudinous front on the fight for freedom and staving off the Orwellian oppression of political correctness. It’s going to get harder folks, but anything worth while is worth fighting for. The United States of America, democracy, and the values entrusted to us through the Constitution are worth all the blood and glory my friends. It was, and it will be worth it. Love, Sparta

I am sitting in Italy, at 4:00 am because I cannot sleep. I am thinking up a perfectly diabolical scheme for the destruction of liberalism. I am going to propose to Obama that we include in the stimulus a free 3 week vacation to Europe for all 18 year olds as soon as they get out of their government schools.
The one qualification is that they have to spend it on the train. You see the trains (made famous by Mussolini) are the perfect metaphor for the destructive seduction of the individual to the liberal ideal. Yes they run on time, they run fast and they are cheap.
The problem is they are the prison of the mediocre. They are not clean, they are populated with miserable socialist conductors who assert the fantasy of their "specialness" within the confines of a metaphor where "no one really gives a crap" they are the quintisential liberal ideal. They function, but just barely well enough to chase from the brain of the riders the hope for a better day. when you are on the train you know you will get where you are going, but you are thoroughly depressed at the prospect that the world has devolved to the acceptance of mediocrity as it's best hope for the ideal of "Godot".
Nothing works very well here in Italy. It is a beautiful country, and the people, outside the cities are friendly enough. But you will always notice within them a resignation to limits imposed on them through their Socialism that keeps them forever resigned to mediocrity.
They get plenty of cover from some union or ministry or bureaucrat somewhere. Accountability does not really exist here. If an 18 year old were sentenced to come here for 3 weeks and spend it on the train, he would be well served by the lesson.
So it is for Digg as well. The entrenched bureacracy that runs the "clique" there cannot tolerate thought outside the box for it endangers their very sanity. If challenged, they could never compete intellectually in the realm of ideals so they must impose their solitary mediocrity upon the upstart that still carries the ability and even worse the propensity for displaying live synapses. If you fall out of line, you are banished to the liberal "mailroom" so to speak.
That is why I for one have an identity there but use it only for the manipulation of certain search engine results. It is quite useless otherwise. Yes, I promote conservative ideals there, I am just never one to participate in the debate that some intellectual subordinate wishes to draw me into, I could never win for their committment to mediocrity. The fact that the MSM has chosen to discuss your plight is actually funny and I do wish to find some of it. The conservatives will be making the same point as I am and the liberals will just pass it by and drag the argument into some irrelevant discourse on "protecting" the innocent from "hate" which is the most "hateful" thing they could ever do. I am not innocent, I am not in need of protecting and would just as soon slay those that seek to protect me from the free and open exchange of ideas, period.
You see, I got my education on the mediocrity of liberalism in the 1970's after coming out of college into a work world nearly destroyed by Jimmuh Carter, I took one of the few jobs available working at the Food Stamp office. It is the United Sates version of the Italian trains where mediocrity is to be held sacrosanct less you "offend" the innocent.
So Sparta, be uplifted by the fact that your very banning is the evidence of the intellectual dishonesty, irrelevance and medioctrity of Liberalism.
